HUONVILLE

 

1/ Huonville is a large commercial town south west of Hobart on the lovely Huon River. It is the centre of the famous Tasmanian apple industry. The numerous apple trees are especially lovely in the autumn and in the spring. This image shows the view south across the Huon River.

2/ The Huon River divides the Huon region into two parts. South of Huonville there is no other bridge across the Huon. This image shows the view south of the Huon River. You can see some of the trees showing their lovely autumn colours.

3/ The Huon is a very beautiful river, which makes it a popular venue for Hobart people taking either a long or a short holiday. This image shows the river in its morning glory.

4/ You can rent personal pleasure boats from this facility on the Huon River near the bridge.

5/ Huonville is the only large town south of Hobart. You can access every facility there. People taking holidays in the Huon Region should note this fact.

1/ Franklin is a historic town south of Huonville. It prides itself on being a builder of wooden boats. This image shows some of the fishing boats that anchor at Franklin.

2/ East of Franklin is the Huon River and to the west of Franklin are many hills, which are often replete with apple trees. This image shows a rural scene just south of Franklin. Note the apple orchard to the left.

8/ The Palais Theatre is the largest building in old Franklin. It was built during the golden age of live theatre in the 1890s.

1/ Cygnet is a commercial town south east of Huonville. It has all the facilities of a town. This image shows the historic town hall of Cygnet.

2/ This image shows the historic Commercial Hotel of Cygnet. Large verandahs were a common feature of late 19th Century architecture in Tasmania.

3/ This is the historic Catholic church of Cygnet. It was built in the Spanish colonial style. A popular pilgrim walk in the Huon area can accessed from this church.
