The Huon's Apple Valley
HUON VALLEY has many lovely and interesting sights, which are listed below. The town of Huonville is the hub of the Huon Valley. From HUONVILLE you are just 30 minutes from GEEVESTON and HOBART.
You are 40 minutes from DOVER and KETTERING, the gateway to BRUNY ISLAND.
You are 60 minutes from SOUTHPORT and 90 minutes from COCKLE CREEK and the SOUTH WEST National Park.

SIGHTS: The Huon Estuary presents many breathtaking vistas, including the famous apple orchards in the Spring. There are great forests to walk in at the TAHUNE AIR WALK and at Mt HARTZ both near GEEVESTON. You can also see:

COCKLE CREEK is where you can walk to SOUTH CAPE BAY, the start the World Heritage SOUTH WEST NP.

HASTINGS near SOUTHPORT has famous caves.

BRUNY ISLAND has some of the most famous beaches in the World and some great walks.

HUON RIVER ESTUARY presents many beautiful vistas as you drive down the B68 Channel Highway.
Travelling is fairly easy in the Huon Valley. However, you can only cross the Huon River from the east to the west at Huonville. On the western side, it is easy to travel to most places on the western side of the Huon Valley from any hamlets North of Dover. Note that Southport is the last place that you can shop and buy petrol.
ACCOMMODATION: The best towns for accommodation are HUONVILLE, GEEVESTON and CYGNET. There are also some places to stay in SOUTHPORT, DOVER and COCKLE CREEK.
Remember that BRUNY ISLAND accommodation involves a ferry trip to the mainland.
From the southern suburbs of HOBART, it is quite easy to access HUONVILLE and the northern part of this area, while COCKLE CREEK in the extreme South is a long two hours away.
ROUTES: From HUONVILLE you are only 3o minutes from HOBART. To the east is the B68 Channel Highway, which takes you down the HUON ESTUARY to KETTERING and BRUNY ISLAND.
To the west is the A6 Huon Highway. This leads south to GEEVESTON. From Geeveston you can drive to the Mt HARTZ National Park and the TAHUNE AIR WALK or you can drive south to SOUTHPORT and DOVER. From Dover a gravel road takes you to COCKLE GREEK. This hamlet is the entry point into the World Heritage SOUTH WEST National Park.
