MIDLANDS HERITAGE TRAIL
MIDLANDS are a series of interesting, historic towns lying between Launceston and Hobart. From the centre of the Midlands at CAMPBELL TOWN, you are close to ROSS and AVOCA and you are within one hour driving time of LAUNCESTON, BOTHWELL, CARRICK, DELORAINE, EVANDALE, OATLANDS, LONGFORD, LIFFEY FALLS, FINGAL, WESTBURY and the EAST COAST towns of St MARYS and SWANSEA.

SIGHTS: The heritage trail lives up to its name. Within easy distance of Launceston are the estates of ENTALLY, CLARENDON, BRICKENDON and WOOLMERS. You need at least half a day to see any of them properly.
There are also the historic towns of DELORAINE, ROSS, AVOCA, FINGAL, EVANDALE, OATLANDS, KEMPTON and WESTBURY. Again you need a half a day to see any of them in detail. These places have preserved a large slice of their 19th Century heritage.
In terms of Nature beautiful LIFFEY FALLS is just South of DELORAINE and is one of the easiest falls to access.
ACCOMMODATION: You can easily visit the northern group of attractions from LAUNCESTON. Any town just south of Launceston would do just as well. For the southern group you need to locate yourself at CAMPBELL TOWN, OATLANDS, ROSS or KEMPTON, if you don't want to drive too far. There are many places to stay in: BOTHWELL, CAMPBELL TOWN, DELORAINE, EVANDALE, FINGAL, KEMPTON, LONGFORD, OATLANDS, WESTBURY and there is some accommodation near LIFFEY FALLS.
ROUTES: The attractions of the Midlands are mostly bound by the A1 Midland Highway. This is one of the best roads in Tasmania. It is straight and double carriageway in some sections. You can easily drive from LAUNCESTON in the north to HOBART in the south in two and a half hours. CAMPBELL TOWN boasts of being in the centre of Tasmania. AVOCA and FINGAL are east of Campbell Town. It is certainly possible to reach many places easily from here.
The Midland attractions really come in two groups. The northern group of EVANDALE, CARRICK, DELORAINE, LONGFORD and WESTBURY are distant from the southern group of OAKLANDS, ROSS, BOTHWELL, KEMPTON, PONTVILLE and CAMPBELL TOWN.
