COCKLE CREEK is a picturesque, beach settlement in the extreme south east of Tasmania. It is a very remote place and a great place to escape to. If you want to drive to the very bottom of Australia, you drive to Cockle Creek. If you want to drive to the very top of Australia, then you drive to the tip of Cape York. Cockle Creek is the most southerly settlement in Tasmania and is a major entry point into the famous SOUTH WEST National Park. There are no facilities at Cockle Creek.
From Cockle Creek you are 30 minutes from SOUTHPORT the nearest small hamlet. You are 60 minutes from the nearest town of GEEVESTON, 90 minutes from HUONVILLE. Nearby places are described the REGION HUON VALLEY.

FACILITIES: There is only camping at Cockle Creek. The nearest shops are at Southport and Dover. The nearest shopping precinct is at Huonville. For local conditions at Cockle Creek telephone (03) 6264 8460 There is some accommodation at GEEVESTON, HUONVILLE, CYGNET and SOUTHPORT.
SIGHT: Cockle Creek and nearby Catamaran are both holiday localities that enjoy the beautiful, deserted beaches and boating access available in the south west of Tasmania. At Cockle Creek there is an interesting whale sculpture, as whales are regularly seen from this point. It is also the starting point for the World Heritage listed SOUTH COAST TRACK.
ROUTE: The only road south of Southport to Cockle Creek is C636. This is a gravel road and it gets rough in places.
